Information for Campus Organizations Seeking Community Engagement Opportunities

Are you looking for a way to get your group/organization/team involved in community engagement activities? Schenectady and our surrounding region feature hundreds of organizations that would be happy to include you in efforts to support neighbors, share resources, mentor kids, and strengthen our city and its services. Your organization can contribute time and energy for one-time events or ongoing initiatives, and play a significant role in supporting our community.

If you are looking for a way to get your organization involved, you will see that many of the Volunteer Opportunities on Community Connections have numerous vacancies in the same shift. You can work with your group members to all sign up for a shift together, and feel free to make this a recurring practice - returning regularly to connect with the same community partner and build a tradition within your organization. If you do not see an opportunity that lines up with your interests and schedules, reach out to the Kenney Center for Community Engagement and Outreach. You can email volunteer@union.edu or schedule an appointment with Ben DeAngelis, Assistant Director of Community Engagement to talk through some options.

Community Service Sites That Can Host Medium and Large Groups

You might also wish to consider reaching out directly to some of our most prominent community partners (feel free to CC volunteer@union.edu on your messages so we can support you). The organizations listed below are known for hosting groups of all sizes and can typically work with your schedule to find a date and time that works for you. As you build your plans, please refer to the Transportation Resource Page to ensure you have travel arrangements that fit your needs.
