What is Schenectady Urban Farms?
Schenectady Urban Farms has 3 community-supported urban farms growing food and raising livestock on 1.3 acres in the city of Schenectady. We are committed to lowering barriers to access to fresh food and greening up Schenectady with a community fruit orchard and classes on growing food.
Our farms are small diversified farms where we raise chickens, rabbits and bees as well as vegetables, flowers, fruit and medicinal herbs. We welcome volunteers during our Open Hours to work with us on farm tasks.
Project Description:
Currently we are preparing planting beds for the next season, clearing weeds, planting cover crops and putting down compost and mulch. Volunteer help is needed to do these tasks plus clean and wash pots for next season's seed starting.
Volunteers should wear closed-toes shoes and a hat and bring water and gloves to work.
Vale Urban Farm is located in Vale Cemetery just off of Brandywine Ave. Fehr Ave Farm is located at the intersection of Fehr Ave and Central Park Rd. (There is still an old sign for Roots and Wisdom there.)
