CANstruction 2020  Build Day

CANstruction is an annual exhibit and design competition that connects talented architects, engineers, contractors, and students to imagine and create colossal structures built completely out of canned food items. The structures are on display on the fourth floor of the New York State Museum for two weeks, raising awareness of food insecurity in our region while highlighting the local talent of design firms. At the close of the exhibit, every can is donated to the Food Pantries for the Capital District to help feed families in the Capital Region.

Thursday, March 19th, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM

  • De-CAN, as it is known, is a crazy time with our volunteers helping as the teams take down their structures, loading pallets, moving boxes of food, making sure that boxes distributed onto pallets, watching the teams to make sure no more than 40 pounds of food is in each box and watching that no one pallet has too much of a single item (2,500 cans of lima beans or 8,000 cans of tuna going to a single pantry is not desirable). If you can only do a portion of the shift, please email, Kathy@theFoodPantries.org

*many local businesses will have volunteers participating as well.
