Who We Are

Joseph's House & Shelter is a 501(c) (3) organization which has worked with the homeless community since 1983. The staff and volunteers share commitment to the principles of non-judgmental advocacy, Housing First and harm reduction.

What We Do

Joseph's House & Shelter provides non-judgmental advocacy and services for homeless men, women and children. During the winter months we are a site for Code Blue and also run an emergency overflow shelter out of several downtown faith communities. We provide 3 meals a day at our shelter and at our 2 supported housing residences for persons dealing with mental health diagnoses, all in Rensselaer County. We run the Outreach Van which runs daily from 12-8pm taking food, water, blankets and clothing to people sleeping outside around the city of Albany where we also have a supportive housing unit for formerly homeless men and women. We serve over 1500 men, women and children each year.
