Who We Are

OUR VISION: Partners in building a literate community.

OUR MISSION: We teach people to read and write; We empower our students to be advocates for themselves; and We educate the larger community about literacy issues. LVCR has been working since 1968 to successfully help learners become literate...to be able to read, write, and/or speak English so they may achieve their goals, obtain good jobs, help their children succeed in school and become contributing members of our community.

LVCR also offers programs in computer, financial, health, and workplace literacy.

What We Do

Literacy Volunteers Capital Region (LVCR) is a nonprofit organization that provides free, confidential tutoring to adults, out-of-school teens and English language learners in reading, writing, and conversational English and provides programs to improve the literacy skills of children.

The major goal of Literacy Volunteers Capital Region is to build a literate community. We train volunteers to be tutors and provide on-going support. In addition to one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction for Basic literacy and English Language learners, Literacy Volunteers Capital Region also offers workplace literacy, Financial Literacy/Math tutoring, Computer Literacy, and Everybody WINS! Power Lunch a reading and mentoring program for children.
