Schenectady City Schools will be a continually improving school district dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning, equity, engagement and efficiency. Everybody Counts. Everybody Learns.
We serve so that all students graduate ready to achieve their college, career, and life aspirations through equitable access to programs, resources, and high-quality instruction.
We nurture the whole child and listen to student voices so that students and graduates have a sense of pride and belonging.
Students and graduates demonstrate kindness, cultural competence, and respect for diversity and each other.
Our Farm to School program is focused on equity, inclusivity, resiliency, engagement and passion. Our goal is to provide project-based learning opportunities, greater food access, and connect our students to the natural world through our programming while inspiring them to pursue a variety of careers related to agriculture/horticulture.
What We Do
Educate over 9,000 students each day, from pre-K through 12th grade. Everybody Counts, Everybody Learns. Farm to School is focused on outdoor learning spaces like school gardens, improving access to fresh, local foods in our cafeterias, and connecting our broader community to our spaces to grow and learn. Farm to School creates garden & classroom curriculum, runs garden clubs, installs and maintains school gardens, works with Food Services to get culturally appropriate, seasonal dishes into our lunch menus, creates community events to enhance food access and growing knowledge throughout our district & city.
