Who We Are
The U-CAN Mentoring Program provides an alternative to incarceration by matching justice involved young & emerging adults with volunteer mentors.
What We Do
Young & emerging adults facing criminal charges may receive a second chance, avoid jail, and graduate with a clear criminal record.
The Judge, Attorneys, and Probation all agree that the young adult may benefit from the guidance of a dedicated mentor.
Volunteer mentors from all backgrounds offer guidance, support & encouragement for a term of one-year.
U-CAN Graduates are working, raising families, and are proud of the path they are headed in life.
U-CAN Mentors
- Complete the Mentor Questionnaire
- Attend a New Mentor Orientation
- Are supported by the U-CAN Courts Office throughout the year
- Complete a free background check (A criminal record does not disqualify
a volunteer)
Testimonials
“I am so very proud of him. He is gaining confidence every day. It has impacted my life as a mentor as well. It’s gives me a chance to
work one on one and to share my experience. It’s a win/win.”
–U-CAN Mentor
“The connection he made with his mentor was incredible to witness and came at just the right time. He would glow with excitement when he talked about the work they were doing.”
–Probation Officer
“My favorite part was hearing the judge say how she was proud of me and seeing people cheering rather than glaring at me about things I wish I never did.”
