Schenectady Environmental Education Center (SEEC)

Who We Are

The Schenectady Environmental Education Center is a collaboration between Schoharie River Center, ECOS: The Environmental Clearinghouse of Schenectady, Upper Union Neighborhood Association, Community Fathers, Inc. and the City of Schenectady.

The project - currently in the design phase - will convert the vacant Central Park Casino building into an environmental education center and a community resource where area youth and others will have the opportunity to learn how we have impacted the local environment and what we can do to protect it. it will be a sustainable, net-zero project that produces all the energy needed to operate the Center, and will serve as a model for Schenectady's commitment to environmental justice and its role as a Climate Smart Community.

What We Do

When completed, the Center will proved educational resources to youth and their families from all Schenectady neighborhoods. It will increase environmental literacy, awareness of climate change, and other environmental crises facing us in the 21st century, through providing outdoor-focused experiences. It will address the legacy of the environmental injustice that communities of color in Schenectady County experience on a daily basis.
