Support our local neighbors as they host their annual Community Social. 

Responsibilities include

setting up/taking down tents, tables, and activities staffing craft stations and gamesengaging with local kids and familiessupporting food distributionother related duties

Students participating in this activity will meet at Old Chapel at their chosen start time (below) and walk together (led by their Site Leader) to the host site at 1200 Glenwood Boulevard. At the end of the shift, the group will walk back to campus together.

The Boulevard Appreciation Neighborhood Association (BANA) is a community group that serves residents living along key thoroughfares in Schenectady, including Glenwood, Parkwood, and Brierwood Boulevards. The organization hosts events like neighborhood cleanups, regular bi-monthly meetings, and community socials to support residents and foster local engagement.

1. I, the undersigned am interested in participating in, or required to participate in, off-campus volunteer events sponsored by Union to be held between July 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027, which activities involve:

Walking or being transported by bus to local volunteer sites in Schenectady or the surrounding area.Volunteering at sites that include but are not limited to: non-profit organizations, donation centers, food pantries, nursing homes, schools and youth centers, animal shelters, parks and nature preserves, gardens and farms, neighborhoods.Performing physical or manual tasks that include but are not limited to: cleaning, organizing, sorting, packing, lifting, carrying, gardening, farming, yardwork, outdoor cleanup, painting, event setup, athletic activities.

2. It is my express intent that this Waiver shall bind the members of my family and spouse, if I am alive, and my estate, heirs, administrators, personal representatives, or assigns, if I am deceased, and shall be deemed as a release, waiver, discharge, and covenant not to sue Union.

3. I understand that there are certain dangers, hazards, and risks inherent in this exercise which may include, but not be limited to, accidental injury arising from the activities listed under paragraph 1 above, which could result in serious or even mortal injuries; and that Union cannot and does not assume responsibility for any such personal injuries. I hereby release, discharge, and agree to hold harmless Union and its Trustees, agents, employees, and representatives from any and all liability arising out of or in connection with my participation in the exercise. For purposes of this Waiver, liability means all claims, demands, losses, causes of action, suits, or judgments of any kinds that I or my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns may have against Union, its Trustees, agents, employees, representatives, and volunteers because of personal injury, accident, illness, or death that occurs to a person, including me, and that results from any cause including, but not limited to, the passive or active negligence or other acts of Union, its Trustees, agents, employees, representatives, and volunteers other than fraud, willful misconduct, or a knowing violation of the law.

If any term or provision of this Agreement shall be held illegal, unenforceable, or in conflict with any law governing this Agreement, the validity of the remaining portions shall not be affected thereby. Held at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, the landmark milestone brings the Capital Region community together for traditional folk dancing, live music, cultural exhibits, and church tours.

Support the Saratoga Therapeutic Equestrian Program in maintaining their trails and facility. 

Responsibilities include hands-on outdoor maintenance, lifting, digging, clearing and hauling brush. 

Participants must dress for the weather, bring a water bottle, and wear closed-toe shoes.

Transportation is provided to the STEP facility, 6 miles from campus.

The Saratoga Therapeutic Equestrian Program (STEP) provides adaptive riding, classical hippotherapy, and equine-assisted learning to individuals with physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. Through its specialized physical therapy, literacy, and community wellness programs, STEP utilizes the horse-human connection to improve mobility, build life skills, and foster independence for children, adults, and veterans.

Support the Kelly Adirondack Center in maintaining the trails of the Reist Wildlife Sanctuary.

Responsibilities include hands-on outdoor maintenance, lifting, digging, clearing and hauling brush. 

Participants must bring a water bottle; wear closed-toe shoes and long pants; and are encouraged to wear long sleeves.

Transportation is provided to the Kelly Adirondack Center, just 3.5 miles from campus.

Responsibilities include supporting staff in engaging with children and families, guiding families around campus, ushering families through various activity areas. Participants will gather for a meeting, eat lunch and attend a Union College Football game. 

Students signing up for this role should be ready to engage and connect with local middle school and high school students throughout the duration of this event. If you are shy and don't want to talk to people, this is not the shift for you. 

This event takes place partially outdoors, rain or shine. Please dress for the weather.

Students will check in at Old Chapel before walking to this on-campus site, led by a Site Leader.

Support our local Neighborhood Association in cleaning up litter and recyclables.

Responsibilities include picking up litter, sorting trash and recyclables. 

Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle. Gloves and trash pickers will be provided. 

Participants will meet at Old Chapel and then walk together led by a Site Leader to the Union College Campus Safety building on Nott Street.

Volunteering at sites that include but are not limited to: non-profit organizations, donation centers, food pantries, nursing homes, schools and youth centers, animal shelters, parks and nature preserves, gardens and farms, neighborhoods. Performing physical or manual tasks that include but are not limited to: cleaning, organizing, sorting, packing, lifting, carrying, gardening, farming, yardwork, outdoor cleanup, painting, event setup, athletic activities.

2. It is my express intent that this Waiver shall bind the members of my family and spouse, if I am alive, and my estate, heirs, administrators, personal representatives, or assigns, if I am deceased, and shall be deemed as a release, waiver, discharge, and covenant not to sue Union.
